Founded in 2007 as an excuse for Special Effects Makeup Artists to practice their craft and have some fun, the NYC Zombie Crawl has taken on an afterlife of its own. What started as a romp through Williamsburg, Brooklyn with a group of 75 zombies grew into hundreds and then thousands over the years.

Under the direction of SPFX Artist and Producer Doug Sakmann, the NYC Zombie Crew has held annual events in Brooklyn and Manhattan as well as special events with NY Comic Con, the Walking Dead, the Tribeca Film Festival, Sony’s ZombieLand, The Zombie Run, Blood Manor, Troma Entertainment and many others.

Zombie fans have expressed that the NYC Zombie Crawl has given them something out-of-the-ordinary to look forward to, a break from the daily grind, a distraction from the horrors of real life. Many of the initially shocked onlookers and bypassers over the years have joined the hoard and become dear friends

Having to take a break during COVID-times to keep the zombies safe, the NYC Zombie Crawl returns in 2024 with events planned for the Summer and Fall.
